Losing download when upload is high

So i use a Starlink as ISP and a Ruijie EG105GW(T) as gateway. Things are mostly fine but a major problem happens when there’s high upload traffic. Starlink has around 20mbps of max upload in my area. When the upload traffic is at max, all download traffic collapses up to the extent of all devices (phones, PCs, TVs) stating “no internet connection”. This problem disappears immediately if the upload traffic is finished. I don’t have network background. I’m a paramedic

The thing is, i’ve been using starlink for a year with mikrotik as gateway and this problem never happen in the past. Only after i switch to Ruijie (the mikrotik has its own problems) that this problem happens. So i figured maybe it’s configuration issue?

Can anyone shed light about this issue? Is there a solution?

It almost sounds like you need to limit the maximum upload bandwidth to be slightly less than your max so that it’s not fully saturated. I think it’s generally recommended to utilize up to 85% of the max throughput to reduce bufferbloat issues.

I find it interesting that’s it’s actually causing devices to not see the Internet at all but I suppose it’s similar to a DDoS attack where your bandwidth is so saturated that it essentially denies service to your network.
